When a family member tries to join a session via scanning the barcode, it receives: "This function not available for your account". What are possible reasons ?

I am starting a share play session in the car from my iphone. A family member tries to join through scanning the barcode. Instead of the "Join" button, there is a pop up saying, "not available for you account"

It's a children's account, the respective iPhone is on iOS17, both are contacts.

What can I do? Is there any setting that possibly forbids it ? For another phone of a colleague it worked.

Hi dancearmada,

The requirements for the feature you describe are covered in the related article titled Play music together in a car with SharePlay and Apple Music. Double-check that link to ensure you've covered the following:

"Here's what you need

To host a SharePlay session in the car, you need:

  • A subscription to Apple Music
  • An iPhone updated to the latest version of iOS

To join a SharePlay session in the car, you need:

Ensure that the passenger meets those requirements, has Bluetooth enabled and not restricted.

Note the following from that article if the option is not presented:

"If you didn't get a notification to join a SharePlay session in the car

  • Check that Music notifications are turned on: On your iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > Music and turn on Allow Notifications.
  • Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off on your iPhone: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of your screen to open Control Center. Then tap Focus."

Confirm no restrictions on the affected device would prevent those notifications and that Focus is not enabled.

Regards.
