Issue with contact picture since iOS 17. How do I restore the previous image people saw when I called?

I think ios17 contact poster feature wiped out the previous picture people saw from me for years when I call them. I really really liked that picture but it was from a long time ago and I don’t seem to have a copy of it. Maybe Io17 just deleted it assuming I would want to create a new one with the new contact poster feature but it’s not even letting me use the old photo. It’s just gone. Can anyone help me restore the old photo which ios17 seemingly wiped out?

For a few days I had this issue with mine contacts; not being able to see an option to select icons for everyone else. I just seen that options revealed themselves [somehow] (might have to factory reset your phone (ensure yi have your Apple login handy & everything else guaranteed backed up)).

1) (an obvious) Open contacts list & select desired contact card.

2) “Edit” at top right corner.

3) “Edit” under image/icon.

4) At least three [random] contact cards/posters will be presented; select “customize” below the desired preset.

5) Select whether yi wish to use “Contact photo” or “Poster”.
