Contact Photo reverts to uncropped

When I create or update the Contact Photo it saves and displays, but then reverts to the uncropped version. I hadn't had this problem before this "Poster" feature with iOS 17 (although I've discovered this question posted here going back years as a possible bug). I'm guessing it's related to creating the Contact Photo as the second step after uploading the Contact Poster. After I create the Contact Poster & Photo, when I click edit I see the correct Poster/Photo combination, but there is also another pair that displays the Contact Photo with the original, uncropped version. I am able delete the correct one I "customized" but this unedited pair does not give me the option to delete.

Fyi, I'm NOT syncing to other programs (ie: gmail). I also tried to edit by signing into iCloud from my desktop, but that obviously doesnt give me the option to view/edit these new iPhone "poster" photos.

Any advice so the contact photo doesn't keep reverting? (additionally, this one contact is my daughter, who is in my family group, if that has any connection to the issue)
