Apple reminders very slow on macbook air

My reminders app works fine on my iphone, but is very slow and laggy on my macbook air. I haven't been using it for very long, so I don't have a lot of deleted reminders. So I know that's not the problem. I've tried restarting the computer, the app, etc. Any other ideas?

Had the same issue. It's been driving me nuts. I had over 80,000 completed reminders. Went to All in reminders, selected Clear (older than a month), and everything sped up!:)

Do you have any anti-virus, "cleaner", "optimizer" apps installed on your Mac? If so, use the respective manufacturers' uninstallers to delete them, as they aren't needed and cause more issues than they purport to prevent.

One way to dig deeper into the cause of sluggishness is to download/install/run an excellent app Etrecheck Here. This app will reveal apps, processes, and faults that can cause these issues. Tips for Etrecheck:

  • When you install/run it, allow it full disk access. This lets it check everything.
  • Once it's completed its run, open the report and copy the entire thing.
  • Reply back to this thread, click on the third icon from the right at the bottom of the reply window (Additional Text) and paste the copied report.

After you've pasted the report here, we'll be able to examine it and determine possible causes and suggested fixes.

There may be others who are more adept at reading the Etrecheck reports than I, but here's what I'm seeing in the report:

    • No Time Machine backup configured - Not associated with the slowdown you're experiencing, but there could well come a time you'll wish you had a backup.
    • You are running MacOS 13.4.1 - Current MacOS is 13.5.2. You should definitely update the MacOS...often times this does fix things like this.
    • You said you've rebooted several times and the problem remains, yet Etrecheck reports it's been 41 days since MacOS has been rebooted. If this is the case, you should definitely reboot.
    • You didn't say which Reminder app is sluggish. I would have assumed it was the Apple Reminders app, but noticed you have ToDoist installed also. I've never used that app, and don't know if it integrates with Apple Reminders or not. Is it the ToDoist app that's sluggish or Apple Reminders?
