How to get apple support for an iMac without a serial number?

I have a 2007 intel iMac that has a few issues and I need to factory reset. However, the serial number has been badly scratched on the bottom of the iMac and is not readable and the OS is inaccessible so I cannot get a serial number. How can I start the apple support process without a serial number?

I am hoping to trade in my M2 Mac Mini, but when entering the serial number into the trade in program, the page seems to indicate that it has no idea what that serial number actually is, as it then asks what model of Mac I have, and what year it came out (with late 2020 being the most recent option). Afterward, it says that it's only eligible for recycling. The serial number is the same everywhere I've looked (packaging, under the Mac, on the Mac, etc.). Am I missing something? How is this not being recognized?

I submitted my Serial Number on iMac and it was refused, is the because my mac is too old? it is a late 2015? Apple would not accept my serial number for this iMac, is it because it is too old? I was trying to see what its worth on a trade-in. thanks

Support options for that device will be extremely limited. It is long obsolete.

You're going to need the original CDs that came with it in order to fully factory reset it.

You might be able to find a set on eBay if you no longer have them.

If you still have the box it came in, the serial number should be on that as well.

Get the serial number from the Apple menu item.

Apple menu, about this Mac

your 2007 device is obsolete so there will likely be few, if any, support options.
