Where are the documentaries on Apple TV+?

I have activated a free trial of Apple plus. I like documentaries, so searched for these. There were about 8 such 'films' (as they were called) listed in the music category, 2 of which interested me. Compared to (say) Netflix, who have hundreds, I was quite shocked. I did find plenty of interesting stuff by searching the Apple TV App, but *it all cost money to watch*! For £7 a month, I'd have expected hundreds - if not thousands - of documentaries across many different genres. Are they hidden somewhere? Or is Apple TV+ not really meant for people who want to watch one-off documentaries about random subjects? I don't want yet another nature film (I have BBC and David Attenborough), I don't want an entire series. I want a one-off 60 minute show about something I previously knew nothing about. What am I missing?

The Apple TV+ catalog currently has 18 feature-length documentaries and 28 docu-series (multiple episodes each). That is what is offered at this time. Other documentaries are not available as part of Apple TV+, and may require renting or buying that title, or subscribing to a different service.

With the specified interests, you may want to consider a different streaming service, such as CuriosityStream, Magellan TV, Docsville, or GuideDocTV, all specializing in documentaries. Mentioned streaming services each have an app on Apple devices (Apple TV box, iPhone, iPad) available.

Thank you! I genuinely thought I might have been missing a menu or something. Thanks for the recommendations - I am very tempted by Magellan and so likely will give it a go (it often gets recommended/paid advert in the YT vids I watch).

I really hope Apple expand their selection of individual documentaries, as I'm 90% part of the Apple 'ecosystem' - iPhone, iPad, Watch, Pencil, TV box... pretty much everything except I use a Windows PC. So... this is probably the first time I've actually been disappointed with Apple! It's only a trial though, so no harm done. I'll come back in a year or so to see if anything has changed, and if so give it a go.
