i would like to see if my subscription to Apple TV+ will allow me to see a particular film. But I don’t see any way to search. It’s just row after row of what Apple TV thinks I want to see or perhaps just wants me to see.

All devices with the Apple TV app have a search function.
The website tv.apple.com for Apple TV+ subscribers also has a search function.
The Wikipedia pages on Apple TV+ content list all current (and upcoming) shows.
Note that the Apple TV app brings access to Apple TV+ subscription content, as well as buy and rent content. Buy and rent content is separate from the subscription, and the same price for subscribers as non-subscribers.
The subscription only covers Apple-produced content. What movie are you trying to see?
