Apple Watch Not Recording Water Temperature

I have been on multiple open water swims using both apples own open water activity recording software and workoutdoors activity recorder. Neither of these recorded the sea temperature.

I have tried opening the depth app during the swim and that also did not record the sea temperature.

I have found a fix to this. To record the sea temperature you must use the depth app and dive down to a depth of 1 metre. You have to do this as if you look at the depth screen there are 3 main fields (depth - time - Temperature). The depth app starts recording an activity when it is deeper than 1 metre down. when it s 1 metre down it start the activity automatically which stores the water temperature. Then once you get back to the surface it automatically stops recording the depth activity and saves the sea temperature to apple health.

I found this too but found that water temp/depth are in fact being recorded just not shown.

I was frustrated that for ocean swimmers using the Open Water Workout App with Apple Watch Ultra, despite having on-board water temp/depth sensors, these aren’t being displayed in the Apple Fitness App workout summary (best place for it) or in the Apple Health App  under Workouts/Show All Data.

It turns out that depth/temp ARE being recorded using the watch Workout App, just not displayed in Apple Fitness or Health Apps. I verified this using a third party app querying all the data captured during the Open Water Workout and it shows depth/temp.

Third Party App I’m using is Healthfit ( https://apps.apple.com/us/app/healthfit/id1202650514 ) for additional exercise metrics, and as a feed to Strava. It takes its feed from the Apple Workout App - theory being that the native App will always capture the maximum amount of data which is the case here.

The summary in the HealthFit App for Open Water Workout actually displays Max. Depth and Average Water Temp, which I’ve tested and verified is correct (screenshot from app attached).

This is without doing the workaround also listed here unlocking the watch water seal, opening Depth and diving down to record metrics to force them to display - they are already being recorded just not displayed!

The developer of Healthfit confirmed he’s just querying the Apple Health App to get this info so it’s definitely there, Apple just not displaying it.

Frustrating! Maybe next Apple Fitness/Health App updates?

On vacation having interesting issues with Ultra and depth app. Would blip on then off , reset several times, worked with support who suggested repair if $700+ then saw in a thread, the sensor port is the hole above the crown. Cleaned it with tooth brush and soap. It now comes on every time as soon as it’s in the water, but doesn’t record and timer doesn’t start? Not saved anywhere on phone or watch.

ideas? Does it come on ( 1 ft) but only record after 3 ft
