Water Temperature not showing up in Health App

I've gone open water swimming a few times with my Apple Watch Ultra and used the Depth app to see the Water Temperature. Very cool.

However, after the swim when I go to the Health app and into the Water Temperature section, there is "No Data". In the "Data Sources & Access" section, it says "None" for Data Sources.

Why aren't Water Temperature readings from the Depth app showing up in the Health App?

How can I make my Apple Watch a Data Source for Water Temperature?

I've had numerous cold water dips but nothing is recorded!

The link above to the how to use the depth feature in the Apple User Guide doesn’t cover this issue.

Yes, my Ultra measures depth and temperature automatically … I have seen it on the face when in the pool.

BUT it is not recording it.

Info in the health data (Water Temperature) says, ‘….it can be entered manually or recorded by a device that adds data to Health’. I have an Ultra watch and there is no data there.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

I've taken 3 open water swims since posting, and I followed all the instructions in the user guide on every swim. Only the 2nd swim's water temperature was recorded in the Health app.

A couple things to note: My "When Submerged" Auto-Launch App is set to the Depth app, but it never launches automatically. I always have to launch the Depth app manually. I also manually launch an Open Water Swim workout just as I get in the water.

During the 1st swim, I only launched the Depth app once mid-swim to view the water temp, but the temp was not recorded in the Health app, and the Apple Watch was still not set a Data Source for Water Temperature.

During the 2nd swim, I launched the Depth app several times, including at the end of the swim. The water temp was recorded in the Health app, and the Apple Watch was finally set as a Data Source for Water Temperature! At this point, I thought I was good.

However during the 3rd swim, I launched the Depth app a couple times to view the water temp, but again the water temp was not recorded in the Health app.

Any ideas what is going on -- and why its so hard to record water temp in the Health app?

Hello

We have an article we'd like to share with you for using your Apple Watch Ultra with the Depth app.

Take a look at Measure underwater temperature, duration, and depth on Apple Watch Ultra found in the Apple Watch Ultra User Guide.

If you are still unable to view the information in the Health app, you will want to reach out to Apple Support. They have a dedicated team for assistance with Health and Fitness.

Take care!
