Option + Command + esc to brings up the Force Quit panel. Once open, force the screenshot app to quit.

If that fails, press and hold the power button until the screen goes totally black ... about 10 seconds. Then restart.

Screenshot highlight window won't disappear When taking a screenshot with 'cmd+5', the highlight window appears and I'm able to adjust the size and shape, and then hit 'return' to take the screenshot. The screenshot saves successfully. However, when I take a screenshot using this method, instead of 'cmd+4' for example, the highlight does not disappear when I hit 'esc'. See attached screenshot showing the highlight window remaining in place. The only thing I've found that works to remove it is to restart the computer which is a little frustrating and very inconvenient. Does anyone have a solution? All software is up to date. Screenshots Screenshots stopped appearing on my desktop. My computer currently uses Monterey, Version 12.6.3. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have this same problem. Rebooting every time doesn’t help. I restarted in safe mode and made sure all software is updated. But it still malfunctions.
