I scoured the whole web for a solution to this problem. I have an M2 MacBook and after updating it to MacOS 13.5.2, it started overheating for no reason, even when I was using Safari, but extremely when I was running my simulators for Xcode. The fix that fixed the problem for me was to go into Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode and check it to "Always".

Thank you for the screenshot.

YouTube Taking Up the CPU:

Update Glitch:

It is likely due to a corrupt update install. So, either(A.) backup your Mac > erase the drive in Recovery Mode (Intel or Silicon) > install Catalina > Move a content using Migration Assistant. Or, (B.) just restore your Mac from a backup you created prior to this update. Didn't make a backup? If so, take this as a learning experience, knowing to always back up your Mac prior to making any major changes to it(such as an update. That way you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the update.

Run EtreCheck and post the report here so we can examine it for clues. Most issues like this are due to issues with third party software with the usual culprits being anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software....none of which are needed on a Mac and usually causes more problems than they solve.

Disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

After running EtreCheck and posting the report, try booting into Safe Mode. If things are better in Safe Mode, then it usually means some third party software is causing the problem. Gathering the EtreCheck report before rebooting the computer will allow more performance metric details to be included in the report which will provide us a better view of the system performance.

You can also run the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.

Here are a few suggestions that may help with your MacBook Pro overheating after updating to Ventura 13.5:

- Check Activity Monitor to see if any apps are using a lot of CPU resources. Quit any unnecessary or resource-intensive apps.

- Make sure your Mac is not sitting on a soft surface like a bed or couch that could block airflow. Use a hard, flat surface.

- Clean out any dust buildup from the cooling fans using compressed air. Dust can obstruct airflow and cause overheating.

- Reset the SMC (System Management Controller). This can help manage thermals. To reset SMC, shut down your Mac, press and hold the left Shift, Control, and Option keys and the power button for 10 seconds, then release and turn back on.

- Check if the overheating happens only during certain tasks. If it seems tied to a particular app, that app may need an update to be fully compatible with Ventura.

- Update to the latest version of Ventura if further updates have been released since 13.5. Later updates may provide fixes.

- Try reducing CPU load. Lower screen brightness, quit other apps, pause resource-intensive tasks like video streaming. Give the CPU less to do.

- If overheating persists, consider rolling back to your previously installed macOS version to see if that resolves it while a fix for Ventura is developed.

Let me know if the overheating continues after trying some of these suggestions. Overheating can sometimes point to a hardware issue, but software tweaks may help manage it.
