MacBook Pro 2017 Overheating

Hi,

I just recently purchased this Mac and updated it to MacOS Ventura 13.2 but was wondering why it started heating up after a few seconds of use earlier when I first began using it? And as I updated it, it sounded like the fans were at full speed— not to mention it was very hot. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thank you.

Read About fans and fan noise in your Apple product - Apple Support. The link within it, Keep your Mac laptop within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support, contains yet another link with instructions for using Activity Monitor to check CPU activity.

That's a lot to digest, but in the end you will find Activity Monitor is likely to reveal one or more energy-intensive processes. Energy Impact for example is directly related to how warm your Mac becomes and how fast its fans run.

Find out what those processes are, and please write back for additional help if you need it.
