Mail looses column width settings

Why is it that every time I log out of mail and return, the column with settings have been lost? I have looked everywhere to find a solution but to no avail. You would think that Apple in all of its greatness would be able to offer a solution to this problem. It is very annoying and frustrating constantly having to reset column width every time I go to mail. Can anyone help... Apple??

Fall back position and depending on User Profile " MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.6

The current version of Monterey is 12.6.6

With the updates also come several important Security Updates

Some of which maybe related to this computer issue

As I wrote above, the order and size of columns, and the set of columns that are displayed, are specific to each Message Viewer window in Mail.

If you close a window, it’s gone. But as long as you keep it open, it does not change.

Now if you quit Mail, I suppose whether or not the window remains is dependent upon your system settings, specifically the one for “close windows when quitting applications”. If you have that option checked, then there’s your reason. If you uncheck it, then windows are preserved when quitting and will be restored when you launch Mail again. Also: make that you do NOT manually close the windows before quitting Mail.

Sorry.

My previous comment, although correct, does not address your situation specifically.

I now see that your complaint is about mailboxes like Inbox, Drafts and Sent.

These are different for rather obvious reasons, e.g. Sent has a "To" column and not a "From", like Inbox.

Hence they will always be different.

One possible way to deal with this, since it seems to be bothersome, is to keep separate tabs or windows for these. Yes, you can have as many Message Viewer windows or tabs as you like.

One other thing to consider is to just drop Column View altogether.

I have used this in Mail and before that in Eudora (who remembers that?), but now and, indeed, for several years already, Column Layout looks terribly outdated. I only ever turn it on for the purpose of discussions like the present one...
