Airpods Max won't connect to my iPhone or Mac

My AirPods Max just suddenly stopped connecting with my iPhone, Mac, iPad. They were working fine earlier today with my iPhone 14 Pro Max then I tried to connect to them using my 16 inch M1Pro MacBook Pro. When they wouldn't connect, I tried to use them with my iPhone again but the wouldn't connect there either.

Here are the things I've tried thus far without success:

Soft restart AirPods Max (hold Digital Crown and Noise Control button until amber flash X 3)

Tried to do cold reboot of APM (hold Digital Crown and Noise Control button until amber flash X 3 and continue holding until white flash. Never got white flash

Left APM plugged into power for several hours to be sure they were well charged

Bluetooth --> AirPods Pro --> Forget This device

Restarted iPhone

Cold rebooted iPhone

Tried connecting with my Mac Studio but APM are not listed as available in Bluetooth Settings there either.

I'm out of ideas for what to do. Any suggestions, anyone?

Thanks.

Marian

Good thought. Thanks! However, I imagine that doing a hard reboot would disconnect the APM from any devices they had been connected to. Wouldn't it?

New data: After my last post, I realized that I have Apple's cable for connecting the APMs directly to a headphone port. My APMs don't produce sound when connected directly (hard wired) to each of three different Macs (MacStudio, M1 Pro MBP, M1 iMac). 😢 At this point, I suspect I'm dealing with a hardware issue but would appreciate any further suggestions.
