Keynote crashes when editing a table cell

This is still an ongoing problem.

Editing a table cell in Keynote will cause the app to crash. Even minor edits such as changing the color of a gridline can result in an unexpected crash.

The only solution/workaround I currently employ is copying my table to Numbers to make any cell, table, or table formatting changes. However, an older thread stated the same table-editing crash occurred in Numbers and Pages as well as Keynote.

If anyone has a solution, fix or explanation, it would be very appreciated.

Hey JavaJam,

We recommend that you try testing this out while under safe mode to further isolate the issue: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Also, make sure that you check for an app update for Keynote from the App Store: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

How to manually update apps on your Mac

1. Open the App Store.
2. In the sidebar, click Updates.
3. Click Update next to an app to update only that app, or click Update All.

If that doesn't help, you can try deleting the app and then reinstalling it from the App Store: Uninstall apps on your Mac

Cheers!

In at least one relatively simple case I found a better workaround, but I'm not sure if this works on all cases, or whether I was just lucky somehow. I created an empty Keynote document, then copied and pasted the slides from the broken/crashing document to the empty document. I can now edit tables and cells on the newly created document, basically forgetting or trashing the old one, and the new document has not crashed so far for me (why?)
