Spotlight Search and Screentime content restrictions

IOS Developers; would you please incude the option to disable spotlight search's Web suggestions within Screentime's content restrictions settings?

Spotlight search can be used to view explicit and innapropriate images from the web via webimage suggestions related to the search term. A user can simply prompt for pictures from a website of their choice and spotlight will provide dozens of pictures related to the prompt.

The inability to disable this feature behind the screentime wall is the sole reason IOS devices can not be fully safe for kids or those working on not viewing inappropriate content. If this were fixed, Iphones could be suitable for these groups of people who need web content restrictions.

This is the sole reason I have sold my Iphone for a "dumbphone". I would only purchase an Iphone in the future if this feature were implemented.

Check it out!

I found a solution that might just work for you.

Warning: this does require using Apple Configurator and restoring the iOS device as a new device

Part 1 - The Restrictions

-Get Apple Configurator and setup the device as supervised (which requires a device restore)

-Then use Apple Configurator to create an "iOS profile". (File>New Profile)

-There are many sections on the left pane, select Restrictions

-The two checkboxes that will disable "Web Content" from spotlight and siri are as follows:

    • Uncheck - Show user-generated content in Siri (supervised only)
    • Uncheck - Allow Siri Suggestions

There are many other restrictions and options you can set or disable including installing apps and you can even set specifically what apps you want allowed. That's under the Restrictions(section)>Apps(tab)>Restrict App Usage and set the drop down to Only allow some apps

Part 2 - Locking Down the Restrictions

However, the profile at this point can easily be removed. There needs to be some other restrictions applied in the iOS profile in order to prevent the removal of these restrictions/profile.

Such as:

    • Under the General section of the left pane, set the Security drop down to Never or With Authorization
    • Back under the Restrictions section,
      1. Uncheck - Allow Erase All Content and Settings (supervised only)
      2. Uncheck - Allow putting into recovery mode from an unpaired device (supervised only)

This should pretty well lock down the profile

The rest is up to you regarding what should be allowed, disabled, required, etc.

Good Luck!
