Apple AirTag not working

I purchased an apple AirTag for my outdoor/indoor cat and it’s been fine I don’t like that I can’t turn the sound on from whatever distance but not a huge deal because she usually stays close. Well she’s been venturing off farther and now the AirTag is stuck saying “last seen 9:39pm yesterday”. YESTERDAY??? Why has the AirTag not updated??? I’m worried sick don’t know where she is, if she’s ok, can’t alert her with the sound that she needs to come to the door, nothing. What is the problem??? Such a waste of money to buy a tracker and I can’t even get accurate tracking results LIVE.

Tesserax,

Even if this were my car keys it would be the same situation with a lot less value to it. It would be annoying to her but it would tell her to come back home because we trained her to hear it and come back. But I don’t think it’s even doing that. So basically it’s useless unless it’s lost around another iPhone is what you’re telling me 😐

It's important to understand that Apple did not design the AirTags to track people or pets. It was designed to help you locate a missing item ... like your car keys. However, that doesn't stop folks from using them otherwise.

As such, when the AirTag is separated from your iPhone for a period of time, it will start beeping. This can be very annoying to a pet. The other thing is that the AirTag needs to be within Bluetooth range of another iPhone that has "Find My Network" enabled so that it could transmit its location to Apple, via that other device. Otherwise, it cannot provide an updated location to the Find My app on your phone.

The AirTag basically relies on using Bluetooth for connectivity. Again, that could be your iPhone or someone else's. That is basically the only way it can gain access to the Internet ... and thus, be tracked via the Find My app.

Again, it is really not for tracking pets. That's why I believe Apple does not promote it for this purpose. However, there are other companies out there that do specialize in GPS tracking devices that may be a better fit for keeping tabs on your cat.

Ref: The Best Pet Trackers and GPS Dog Collars for 2023 - PCMag << You'll see the AirTag listed ... but only "best" for iPhone users. I would suggest that you using a tracker that relies on GPS, not Bluetooth.
