AirTag not updating

I just updated to iOS 16.3 and two of my AirTags stopped working. My wallet and my keys.

I figured I would replace the batteries on both, but nothing happened so I unpaired them from my iPhone. And when I try to repair them nothing happens they’re not identified. The AirTag still chirps every time I put the battery in, but I tried to pair it it just keeps searching and searching. Both my wallet and my keys AirTag are doing this, so it’s not a faulty tag, it’s something with the iOS or a setting on the phone.

AirTags rely on nearby devices to provide location details. Let's check Settings on your iPhone to make sure everything is configured properly:

1. Open Settings > [Your Name] > Find My, make sure Find My [Device] and Find My network are both enabled.
2. Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services to make sure Location Services is enabled.

Locate an AirTag or other item in Find My on iPhone - Apple Support

If those setting are all enabled, we recommend toggling them off, then back on again. If that doesn't help, reach out to Apple Support directly: Contact - Official Apple Support.

I’m having this same issue. I got an AirTag for my dog and linked it to my phone. My husband is walking the dog and has his iPhone with him but the location has not updated for more than 20 minutes even tho the dog is next to another iPhone. My settings are correct and I did toggled off and on as suggested in this post but no change, the location still has not updated.

Same. Bought AirTag for dog, over a year ago. Working fine for location, but still on firmware 1.0.301. All location services and FindMy are set correctly, all software updates on iPhone completed with no issues. AirTag has been next to phone for many many hours over the last year, but still no update.
