Apple TV 4K 2022 weird noise

I have recently bought the apple tv 4k 2022 edition, when pausing on Disney+ or Netflix the tv is making a weird noise and even static. I bought the WIFI version and even got a new HDMI cable. Did this happen to anyone else?

I don't suspect two mainstream apps got funky in the same way, and don't think that reinstalling them will help in this case.

There's something odd going on with your TV and/or 'home theater' sound system. I suspect that the 'weird noise' is happening whenever something is being played, but it's most noticeable while paused.

Please tell us about your system and how it's connected - TV model, any soundbar or AV receiver, etc. Also, what does the ATV4K report under Settings > Video and Audio [under AUDIO] > Audio Format (should report Auto: [something]).

A quick search reports an issue like this when the ATV believes it's playing through a Dolby 5.1 surround system, but the TV and/or soundbar are merely capable of stereo. You would fix this problem by changing the Audio Format setting referenced above.

Hello jesmalx098,

So to be sure that we understand, is this only happening with these third-party apps? If so, then we'd recommend reinstalling the app and seeing if the issue persists. Here's how, per Redownload apps and games from Apple - Apple Support:

  1. From the Home Screen, choose App Store.
  2. Choose Purchased.
  3. If you use Family Sharing, you can select a family member's name to see their purchases.
  4. Select Not on This TV.
  5. Find and select the app that you want to redownload.
  6. Select the download button .
