I recently upgraded to MacOS Monterey. The Mail search function is no longer working. I tried restarting the Mail app while holding down the Shift key -- a few times -- but Search is still not working.
I also tried closing the Mail app in the Activity Monitor and restarting my Mac but that didn't work either.
Suggestions?

I had a related problem with Mail (in Monterey, on an M1 MacBookPro): I would search on a word or name, get what I wanted but then, on deleting the search term from the search bar, Mail would continue to display the search results. And not revert to the full list of emails. I discovered that if you insert an asterisk (*) in the search bar, it brings back all messages! Who knew ...
Hope someone finds this useful.

In reference to getting back to seeing all messages, I realize that searching on a period (.) is better than an asterisk because all addresses (almost) have a period in them.
