“Test” Emergency Alert very early in the morning

Hello,

I am still puzzled as I am writing this,

That’s because I can’t come with a logical explanation of why I received a test of the emergency alert at this late hour of the morning. What is more shocking is that my room is in hearing range from other rooms and I didn’t hear a single emergency alert coming from the other phones of my family. Of course I turned emergency alerts off from my phone afterwards. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has information or answers to the following questions:

  1. Why did I receive the alert?
  2. Why was it sent at this particular time?
  3. Why was I the only one potentially receiving this alert?
  4. Who was responsible for sending the alert? Is it apple, my phone provider, local government?

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

When test alerts are off even though they are issued they are required by law to test the emergency alert system every year of every Tuesday I believe now is it annoying? This is what I found out The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for conducting national-level tests of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) at least once every three years, as required by the IPAWS Modernization Act of 2015. The purpose of these tests is to ensure that the systems are effective ways to warn the public about national emergencies. Is it annoying? Yes but it is supposed to get your attention incase of an emergency like hail or a tornado. So it probably bypassed your settings and did it anyway.

The folks responsible for this particular notification error have apologized:
