HomePod Stuck in Configuring
I wanted to throw this out incase anyone else gets stuck like I did.
I purchased two HomePod's for my new apartment. Coming with me was an Apple TV 4k and a mini. After getting a new home setup in HomeKit and getting my 4k in that home, I added the HomePods. the first connected no problem but the other was stuck in the dreaded configuring. I had spent a week and a half back and forth with different Apple specialists going through every setting and countless restarts. I was even advised to exchange the HomePod for a new one, yet the new one had the same problems.
From my understanding, the issue happens if your HomePod shipped in anything lower than 16.3. (16.4 was out when I had the issue but online it sounds like this was an issue with the previous update too, mine shipped in 16.0). There is very little online about how to solve this. The one thing I did see was reseting the HomePod, creating a new "test home" in HomeKit, getting it added and then updating, resetting again and add it to your actual home (which one Apple specialist told me made no sense and stopped me from doing so for a week). Although I was able to get it to update and finish configuring in the test home, when resetting and adding it to my actual home, I was still stuck in configuring.
What FINALLY worked was resetting EVERYTHING. Both HomePods, the mini, Apple TV and deleting the home and starting from scratch. it was a serious pain but it finally worked. I wish Apple would fix this, but from my experience this was the only way. Hopefully this gets fixed soon, but if not I wanted to provide a solution so I can save someone else a week and a half of speaking with Apple support and pulling your hair out. (it was worth it though these things sound amazing!)
