New PC Window 10 and new iTunes 12.10.11 64 bit install. iTunes will not access my local music library

New PC Window 10 and new iTunes 12.10.11 64 bit install. iTunes will not access my local music library. A very small amount of music shows under Songs, I think recently purchased songs only. Uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled with no improvement. Library is resident on PC and appears to be at location listed under Edit>Preferences>General.

Did you bring over the original .itl file, not just the media? iTunes doesn't scan the designated media folder for content so telling an empty library where the media folder is or reinstalling iTunes doesn't fix anything. Occasionally iTunes will dump the library on startup, particularly when updating the database structure. If the library is supposed to be in the default location of <User's Music>\iTunes it will create a new empty library as if nothing had happened. See the advice in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community if needed.

iTunes Music is the old name for the media folder from iTunes 8 and earlier. If your library had initially been created on something more recent the media folder would usually be called iTunes Media, though it is possible to choose a new media folder with any name you want. I suspect you need to restore a .itl file from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If you don't have that, and cannot get your .itl file from your old computer, then rename iTunes Music as iTunes Media and use File > Add Folder to Library to import the content of iTunes Media.

And as the fiend says, install a more recent version of iTunes.

Thanks again for your response. When I downloaded iTunes I received the "can't read the .itl " message. I followed instruction on You Tube and corrected the error. As you responded:

If the library is supposed to be in the default location of <User's Music>\iTunes it will create a new empty library as if nothing had happened.

My address for my files "C:\Users\vcgri\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" has all files intact.

It has to be something simple but what it is I cannot figure out.

You wrote: " iTunes doesn't scan the designated media folder for content" Is the media file referred to iTunes Music?
