Unsend email problem-glitch

Hi all,

I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right place, but I found a glitch with the new “unsend” iOS mail feature.

If you have it enabled (i.e.- a 10 second delay), hit “send”, and then close the mail app in less than those 10 sec., the email “vanishes without a trace”. It does not end up in either drafts or trash - just “gone”, not showing in the Sent mail folder either.

I thought I was losing my mind after losing 3 lengthy emails - then I tried a test twice sending to another email address and no trace.

I don’t know how many people this affects, but Apple should fix this. BTW, I use gmail but access it through the Apple mail app.

I turned the delay feature to “off” until I train myself to have more patience and wait (LOL).

Hope this helps someone else.

I'm using Apple Mail on an iMac with 14.2.1 Sonoma. If I use the "Undo send" feature on the same email message twice it disappears.

What exactly does this mean?

I tried this several times using my gmail account and had no issue. If by “close” you really mean use this technique, then it’s not surprising this occurs.

My test simply “closed” Mail by swiping up from the bottom of the Home Screen.

OK. I think you’re saying you and I have performed the same steps with different results.

I composed and sent an email from a gmail account using Apple’s Mail app on my iPhone. I then quickly swiped up from the bottom of the Home Screen much less than 10 seconds (my Undo Send Delay time) after sending the message. Perhaps 30 seconds later, I confirmed the message was successfully sent.

I am using iOS 16.4 on an iPhone 14 Pro.

Got it. Yes, I saw both the 16.3.1 and the 16.4 updates but were leary of them from some issues I saw reported. I read the review from Forbes.com written by Gordon Kelly and tend to wait for his final advice given a week after the updates come out.

I was going to go for the 16.4 update until I saw from OSX Daily that 16.5 was just put into beta.

My issue may very well be due to being on 16.3 or that my “older” phone has some issues with that new feature.

Either way you are right in that I should update to 16.4 for the security patches if nothing else.

Thanks again.
