Mac mail issues - attached jpgs and pngs are automatically embedded into message losing the original file name

Whenever I send an email to clients and attached a jpg/png file, it embeds them in the message window and as a result deletes the file itself including the file name. I also find it is the same when they send me attachments. All file names end up being "Image001.png, Image002.jpg" etc. therefore losing the file reference number/name.

Could it be the transfer between Mac and pc users is the issue? Either way its frustrating and I also fear that if they send me a jpg that once its embedded in the email it will also lose resolution quality as a result.

Please help

Hello awooga,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. We'd like to help out with your current issue when emailing specific files. If you wish for your jpg/png files not to be embedded, you can send them as an icon by following the steps listed here: Add attachments to emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

You can change how attachments are displayed in the Compose window. To display an attachment (such as a one-page PDF document or an image) as an icon, Control-click the attachment in your message, then choose View as Icon.

Another possible step that worth trying is to compress the image and email the compressed file. Opening it from the receiver's end should still have the original file name. To do this, follow the steps below:

1.) Right click the image.

2.) Select Compress.

3.) Drag compressed file to email and send.

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.
