Having trouble with attachments in mac mail

Lately, I am having the following issues in Mac Mail. Does anyone know why and how to fix?

  • When I drag an image into my email and send, it puts a generic icon where the image should be but puts the actual image at the end of the email (I don't have the end of email option checked under Edit->Attachments)
  • People on PCs don't see the image anywhere (I have the PC-friendly option checked under Edit->Attachments)
  • When I reply to someone who sent an image, my reply won't send unless I delete their attachment because it says it is still loading.

Any ideas why this is happening all of a sudden? I am attaching an image below of what the email looks like after I send it.

I have OS Ventura.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi there NTorok14,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities.

Based on the information you have provided about your email attachment issue, we would suggest starting with further isolation using the steps below. They will help us narrow down what could be impacting the attachments, and allow us to select the best steps forward. Perform them in order, testing between each:

  1. Quit Mail: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support and restart your Mac: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support. When the Mac is back on, reopen Mail while holding the shift key. This will cause the app and computer to shut down anything running and start everything fresh, hopefully clearing any issues.
  2. If you still have trouble sending attachments, see if the issue occurs in safe mode. Safe mode will help by running a few checks on your startup disk during the boot process, making repairs where it can. Then, once booted, safe mode will disable certain processes that maybe causing a conflict. You can learn more about how safe mode can help, including how to boot to it and what to do with your findings, here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.
  3. Should you still need help sending attachments after that, try in a new user account: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support. Doing this will remove any potential interference from your personal data, files, apps, and settings.

Don't hesitate to respond back if you still need help after this.

Cheers!
