AppleTV says watchOS not compatible

I have a AppleTV 4K 1st generation. I am trying to us fitness+. But I get a message that my WatchOS is incompatible. I’ve checked everything and all software is updated. I tried the watch on Fitness+ on a new Apple TV 4K Wi‑Fi with 64GB storage and it worked fine.

can you suggest a fix?
