Blocked Mail not going to Trash

There are numerous discussions regarding this glitch.

Just do a quick search - this is a wide-spread, known issue. Lots of people ask this question.

Preemptive Strike: There are the "do-gooders" who obediently provide the standard, "Here's how you set your Preferences" procedure. Which does not work. We've all done it. It does not work. Not to mention the, "Did you update your software?" group. Also, there's the, "I just delete my Junk every time I log out", etc. group(s). Yeah... Again, not the correct answers.

Note: I'm not trying to disparage anyone with those previous comments / preemptive strike. But, those are not helping.

I have not (yet) seen any posts which provide a solution or update on Apple fixing this glitch. If that post is there, I have not found it.

Has there been a solution found? If so, can you provide the solution or a link to the post?

cnsclaw - Thank you, very much, for the kind response.

Someday, Apple will (probably) fix it. I just keep coming back around to see if that day has come and I've just missed it. Or, if someone has found a real work-around. 🤞🏻

Thanks again,

I too have an iPhone 14 running iOS 16.3.1 and Yes Blocked goes to Trash and " never past Go " humour here

That is Apple Designed If the Blocked Filter is enabled

And Yes, you are very Correct that the Wording in Blocked Tab of Apple Mail does say Move to Trash

But it does not

If you believe this needs Apples Attention it would be Best to file either a Bug Report and / or Feedback Directly to Apple

We Mortals ( you and me ) have Zero Control to affect changes or improvements to what Apple has done or will do

Though, there have been reasons explanations and possible Actions the User can use to mitigate this annoyance

Then have a few suggestions ;

1 - Get Support Choose a product and we’ll find you the best solution.Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues .

2 - Product Feedback - Apple and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing issue

We are only " the messenger " of the observation

That is unless, the User may have some Other agenda ?

Technically and documented by Apple.

Big Sur macOS 11, Monterey macOS 12 and Ventura macOS 13.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User or for that matter Third Party Software.

Predicated on the above, to alter the wording on any aspect of the UI and / or altering or modifying the Operating System and or functionality in any way would be impossible.

The Only Entity that has such abilities is Apple

The user is very correct ( no, not placating ) really right.

As per the Design by Apple, even when the builtin in Junk Filter is enabled, the best it will do is direct the Blocked Send to the Junk Folder

That is as far are it goes.

It stays in Junk to allow the user time to verify if is truly Blocked and Junk

You can use the the Keyboard combo to " Erase Junk Mail "

The Messages do not go to Trash but Vanish altogether

So I notice this on the MacOS messages also. Blocked items are in the JUNK folder and not TRASHed.

But believe it or not this seems to work:

Using my iPhone, went into Mail, into folder JUNK, noticed all the Blocked items, refreshed, and Shazam! all the Blocked mail disappeared!

Went back to the Mac Mail, checked the JUNK folder and all the Blocked were gone also as they should be.

Not glamorous but something is better than nothing.

Will continue to check this as more Junk arrives.

Yes - it's a well-known option and is my current "work-around" solution. (See posts above regarding iPhone / iPad.)

But it still does not address my original question.

I apologize for not being more clear on my original question; simply posted under "MacOS System & Software" and "MacOS Ventura" without specifying:

"On MacOS Mail..."

Regardless, thank you, very much, for providing the helpful comment. Much appreciated!

So...

You're saying that Apple intends for the Blocked Sender to *not* go to Trash, even though that's exactly what the Setting is telling it to do?

In the "Blocked" Setting dialogue, we get this:

✅ Enable blocked mail filtering

When email from blocked address arrives:

✅ Move it to the Trash

So, you're saying that Apple - on purpose & by design - is telling us:

"No - we're forcing you to keep it in Junk - just to make sure you really don't want to Trash it. Even though we provide you with an option to send it to Trash. And you've selected that option. No. We will not follow our own dialogue setting. You're an idiot and we know what's best for you. By design."

This is your answer?

I respect your opinion. But...

When I use the similar settings on my iPad and iPhone, the Blocked Senders IMMEDIATELY go to Trash. It just doesn't work on my MacBook.

And, yes - I understand, very well, the Erase Junk Mail function. (I should have added that to my original post regarding System updates, etc...) Regardless, thank you for pointing that out.

But, you're saying this is a "by design" feature built into the system from Apple?

Hmmm...

  1. The User has no Other agenda (sic). Thank you for suggesting otherwise, but no.
  2. Also, thank you for the continued follow-up suggestions. I'll pass; see #3, below.
  3. To quote your previous note:

"We Mortals ( you and me ) have Zero Control to affect changes or improvements to what Apple has done or will do"

Back to my original post:

• Has a solution been found?

P.Phillilps: I understand your answer is "No". If I do not understand your answer, please let me know. Otherwise, I thank you, again. It has been my pleasure.

Are there any other helpful answers?

And, thanks again,

MattBeef - Thank you for this post, kind sir. It would appear from the obfuscation that the answer is indeed "NO". Not quite sure why it's so difficult for P. Phillips to say the word. Here, let's practice: No. Neau. Nough. Nah. Nope. Nein. Nyet. Non. Nnnnnnoooooooo. PS this is perhaps the all-time stupidest glitch I've encountered. TRASH means TRASH. Perhaps we need to practice that one too.
