Air tags started beeping all of a sudden

Hi, i bought a pack of 4 air tags about 6 months ago. they have been all paired up & working fine. I have on in my car, my keys, my bike & my work van. All this time my work iphone has never alerted me that an air tag was following it when in my work van, i just assumed this was because it my own phone that is paired to the tag was always with it ?? It has now started alerting me every day on my work phone that this tag is tracking me. It has also started beeping every morning as soon as i start driving the van. The one in my car is also beeping as soon as i get in the car now & when i pick my keys up the one on my keys now beeps at me too. Any ideas why this has just started happening?

Not sure if its relevant or just coincidence but this started after i loaned my bike to my brother & he told me he got an alert on his phone than an airtag was tracking him, he just ignored it as he knew it was mines.

Just want to check you fully reset them properly, you need to remove & replace the battery 5 times, the beeping noise you get when you re fit the battery on the 5th time is different to let you know its reset.

Can you do the precise finding of your tags? mines knew they were with me but i wasn't able to locate them even with the phone right next to them.

Thats been nearly a month & mines are still OK after deleting & re pairing them.

In theory, an AirTag will "beep" anytime it is away from "you." By you, that would be your iPhone that is associated with the same Apple ID as the AirTag. So, for example, if you only have your work phone with you, and not your personal phone, the AirTag would beep intermittently. That's how it is designed.

However, if you are saying that it still beeps even if you have both phones with you, then that would not be correct.

FWIW, I only have a single AirTag that I added to my ATV's keychain. If I don't have my iPhone with me when I'm out riding, it will start beeping.

Not sure I have a good answer for you. My only suggestion is that they may need to have their batteries replaced. It is my understanding that beeping does NOT indicate a low battery, but it may be worth a try. FYI, they are expected to last, at least, a year ... but, like any battery, ambient temperature (hot or cold) conditions may shorten that lifespan.

Do you own this "work" phone? ... or, more importantly, is it associated with the same Apple ID as all of these AirTags? If it is not, then it would be "normal" for this phone to warn you that an AirTag (associated with another Apple ID) is nearby ... and "following" you. This would be the case for your brother when he used your bike.

Little bit of an update, i was in my van the other day & it started beeping again about 6 hours after it initially done it that morning. The tag was showing it was with me but when i tried to do the precise finding the phone would not find the tag despite it being about a meter away from me. I decided to un pair them & reset them by removing & refitting the battery 5 times then re paired them a new tags & so far so good after 5 days.

Around the same date, my 8 airtags started doing the same thing. I have reset them to no avail. It's so bad, I am considering tossing them all. I am thinking Apple screwed something up and is being silent about it. Airtags have been working just fine for the year prior.

The work phone is owned by my company & is not linked in any way to my apple id or my air tags. I have the air tag in my work van as i carry my own tools in it. I understand that my work phone should alert me that there is an air tag following it but what is confusing me is i have had the air tag in there for several months driving around for up to 10 hours a day & its only just started alerting me there is an air tag following it last week. I assumed it had never alerted me as I always had my own phone with me that is paired to the tags.

now also whenever i get in my car or van & start driving the tags start beeping for about 15-20 seconds.
