Use Hey Siri when connected to a car stereo

Hi,

i try to use Hey Siri while my iPhone is connected to my car stereo via Bluetooth.

so far everything works but only when the phone is unlocked. As soon as I lay down the phone and it locks itself most of the Siri commands do not work and require to unlock the phone first.

I understand that this is a security feature. But it is cumbersome to always unlock the phone before using Hey Siri especially while driving.

Is there a way to mark this Bluetooth connection as trusted to the unlock requirement is not required when connected to this specific devices?

Thanks!

Hi kra_ste,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

To use Siri while CarPlay is engaged, please try the steps below

  • "Press and hold the voice command button on the steering wheel.
  • Touch and hold the CarPlay Dashboard  or CarPlay Home  button on a touchscreen displaying CarPlay."

It is also possible to use “Hey Siri” to activate Siri in supported vehicles, you may have to reach out to the manufacturer of your vehicle to confirm this feature.

Hi kamote0628,

unfortunately my car does not have CarPlay. So I do not have a voice button that controls the phone.

"Hey Siri" works but depending on the request Siri requires me to unlock the iPhone first. And that's where the problem is. Having to pull up the phone from the dash in front of my face to unlock it is not feasible while driving.

For example, if I say "Hey Siri, call my daughter" Siri requires me to unlock the phone first to start the call.

Easiest would be to be able to "define" the bluetooth connection to my car as "trusted" so any Siri request would be answered without having to unlock the phone first. Since "Hey Siri" is trained to my voice the risk of someone abusing this is low.

Cheers.
