SE(2020) speakerphone randomly turns off

I've had this phone for 2.5 years. I use my speaker a lot. Just recently I find the speaker turning off mid conversation. My IOS 16.2. I tried a cold restart of the phone, but the problem is still there. This is very disruptive to my conversations. I'm in mid sentence and suddenly can't hear the other party and have to tape the speaker icon again to resume. Seems to cut of every 30 or 45 seconds, though the pattern is random as far as I can tell.

I backed up my iPhone and did a complete reset/erase. Then I restored. This solved the problem (but created minor headaches with wallet, and other settings. The speaker now stays on. Perhaps it was a problem with 16.2/3. But it seems to be fixed with the restore.

G'day NewYaka,

Thanks for the post. As we understand it, you're using speakerphone on calls and frequently find that the audio switches to the standard receiver rather than remaining on speakerphone. Is that right?

So we can narrow this down, test playing audio from an app like Music. Does that play continuously as expected, or does it cut out?

Also, do you have any cases on your iPhone by any chance? If so, try testing by temporarily removing the case. Let us know the results.

As a side note, if you're still running iOS 16.2, making a backup and updating is a great idea. This will help to rule out possible causes on the software end. Here's how to Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers.
