When you apply a password to a document in macOS, that dialog also offers a checkbox adjacent to the words, "Remember this password in my keychain." If selected, then you do not need to remember the password when opening the document (in your account) as Apple's keychain steps in and provides the password, automatically opening the document. Otherwise, it is about your memory capacity and nothing else will open that document.
