Password protected file opens without the password

Password protected file opens without the password

Created a file using the Pages editor and added a password which does appear in keychain.

Used Pages/File/Add Password. File saved on desktop.

Should I be able to open the file without being asked for the password? I can!

Mac mini, macOS 13.2

It's getting the password from the keychain.

Thanks for your reply and help. I removed the password from the keychain and now I am asked for the password. Did not understand how file protection worked.
