AirPod Pros automatically/unnecessarily connecting to new MacBook Pro w/M1 chip

For over a year, I've successfully used my AirPods with an iPhone 12, AppleTV, and an older MacBook Pro (Intel chip) running Catalina. However, since I began using a new MacBook Pro with M1 chip and running Monterey, the laptop is constantly and aggressively connecting to my AirPods even when I'm actively connected to--and even on a call via--my iPhone. It doesn't matter that I've never, ever *chosen* to connect my AirPods to the laptop; despite the fact that my last connection is almost always to my phone, the AirPods will force a connection to the laptop if its Bluetooth is enabled.

On both devices, I have tried toggling between the "Connect to this iPhone" settings of "Automatically" and "When last connected to this iPhone", but that changes nothing (Aside: I also don't *want* to choose the latter on my phone, because I want my default connection to be to my phone.). I have resorted to disabling Bluetooth altogether on my MacBook, but I really hope that's only a temporary workaround.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'd appreciate a better solution than disabling Bluetooth. Thanks!

Hello Garden_Grrl,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see you have some questions about your AirPods connecting automatically to your Mac, and we'd like to help. When you go to Settings > Bluetooth > and click Options, next to your AirPods, you should see "Connect to this Mac". If so, change that from Automatically to Last Connected to this Mac.

Let us know if this helps.

Regards.

Hi Jmanna13,

I apologize for my delayed response, but thank you for yours! One reason for my delay was that I continued to struggle with this issue and was trying to get to a good point before responding. Your suggestion is exactly what I'd tried prior to posting my question, but it had not worked. After several setting toggles AND a couple of reboots of both my laptop and my phone, the setting changes finally seemed to work. My AirPods are no longer automatically connecting to my new laptop when I don't want them to.

Thank you again!
