My daughter's gave me an Apple Watch for Christmas but as I get older I need more light to see and the auto damning at night makes it hard to read The Watch. I see no way of turning the auto-deming off. Does anybody know how to do this

Just wanted to comment as well.. I bought the Ultra a few days ago, and noticed the same thing. Its pretty much not usable at night which is a huge disappointment. Also the night vision (red) face is great but same thing, if you use it at night its extremely difficult to read.

I know the auto dimming is working the way it's supposed to but it doesn't help when I can't see it. I'm sitting in a dark room at night watching TV and even putting my hand over it for a couple seconds and moving it away doesn't help because the room is already dork. I guess I will return it and stay with my Fitbit watch which I don't have an issue with this problem
Your ambient light sensor is working as designed. There is no setting to turn off the sensor. You can place your palm over the watch face for a couple seconds, then remove it and it should be brighter long enough to see it.
Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar to have the display tested. I don't have issues seeing my screen on my Ultra at night and I don't even have brightness turned up that high.
If ultimately, the watch doesn't meet your needs, you have 14 days from date of original purchase to return it.
