Blocked Senders Not Going to Trash

I've posted a similiar question before, but I am not receiving an adequate answer. I'm wondering if there is a bug in my phone/software. I'm using a 7 plus, Software 15.7.2. I am being overrun with an individual who sends me many messages that I don't want, and I suspect is a phishing attack. I marked the sender "blocked", and I have gone into settings and marked all blocked emails to automatically go to trash. These messages do not go to trash, although they are marked with a red circle with a slash through it. It is aggravating that I continue to see these messages, as there are so many. Several people have told me to go into settings and do what I have already done, but the messages are not automatically going to trash. Interestingly, when I download the message in Outlook, they are automatically moved to trash/junk.
