Apple Pay issue: Can't add a debit card on my Apple ID

I had to a full reset of my iPhone for an issue. After that reset I can't add a certain bank's debit card in my account. It always end up "Add Card or Try again later". I have two cards from the same bank as they issue two different cards to each customer one for online purchases and one physical. Both cards have their own numbers, expires etc so they are separate card but linked to same account. Both can be added in Apple Pay and used as well. However, I cant add any of those cards. I tried to add my spouse card which is from same bank. Same result "Add Card or Try again later". The process doesn't even to the verification step (SMS or Bank app code etc). Strange thing is I can add other banks card without any issue.

Spoke to the bank and Apple support without any results. Today I removed my apple ID and added my spouse's ID on my phone and viola! I can add the my problematic card successfully. I remover her ID and added back mine which obviously removed the debit cards which I had added and problem is back.

My suspicion is Apple is holding some data which is creating a glitch. What steps can I take when Apple says "not our problem"? How can I ask them to purge my Wallet data?

Hello imran.dawood,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. Since you are getting an error regarding adding your cards, it may be best to reach out to your bank or card issuer again. As mentioned in If you can't add a card to Apple Wallet to use with Apple Pay - Apple Support, Apple does not approve or decline cards for use with Apple Pay.

1. Check that you're able to use Apple Pay:
• Contact your card issuer to see if they support Apple Pay.
• Update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOSwatchOS, or macOS.
• Make sure that you are in a supported country or region.
• Check that your device is compatible with Apple Pay.
2. Check for services outages or connection issues.
3. If you see the message "Could Not Add Card" or "Invalid Card," contact your bank or card issuer.
Apple does not approve or decline cards for use with Apple Pay. If your card was declined, contact your bank or card issuer.
If you need help adding a card, learn how to set up Apple Pay.

If the same happens with the payment methods in iTunes, there may be an issue with a past order. Use the guidance in If your payment method is declined in the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support. The following is from that article.

If you still can't make a purchase
• You might have an unpaid order. Learn how to pay an unpaid order.
• Contact your financial institution.
You might need to ask your financial institution to allow international purchases on your debit or credit card.
If you want to know why a debit card, credit card, or other payment method was declined, speak with your financial institution. Apple doesn't have information about why the payment method was declined.
• In some countries and regions, your payment method might be declined because of changes to local law. Learn about billing and purchases in Europe or what to do if your card is declined in India.

Take care.
