Apple pay stopped working on all of my devices after iOS update 18.1.1

So I always use my tap to pay (apple pay) with my debit card which has been linked to all my devices for years now. After the update of 18.1.1 it will no longer work. The debit card itself works fine in stores and online purchasing, also called the bank to make sure everything was good on that end. So I deleted the card from my devices and tried to add back to my iPhone 15 which is running 18.1.1 which proceeds to tell me that it is an invalid card. The card is still linked to my apple account, just cant add to the wallet for apple pay anymore. I did go onto the apple website to make sure my card is supported (which it is).

The last time I was able to successfully use my phone (Apple Pay) was November 30 this year 2024.

I’ve tried removing my cover which has the insert on it for wireless charging.

I’ve tried turning my phone off and on.

my physical card works just fine.

Frustrating when I’ve been using it for years and all of a sudden it doesn’t work. It means I have to go back to carrying my wallet with me everywhere

my phone is an iPhone 13 Pro

Apple doesn’t change anything. Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of cards are added everyday around the world with no issues. A small percentage have issues with their bank or Payment Network Operator. There’s nothing unusual there.

Encrypted card data resides in the Secure Element. The SE is a separate SOC (System on a Chip) and has its own separate processor, storage, RAM, etc. It doesn’t even run iOS software. It uses Java. I’ve included an article about the SE to help with your understanding.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_element

>>A secure element (SE) is a secure operating system (OS) in a tamper-resistant processor chip or secure component. It can protect assets (root of trust, sensitive data, keys, certificates, applications) against high-level software and hardware attacks.

Applications that process this sensitive data on an SE are isolated and so operate within a controlled environment not affected by software (including possible malware) found elsewhere on the OS.<<

This is happening to me. That’s why I came for answers. My card has been on my Apple Pay and I’ve been transferring money to my account from my card. I went to transfer today and it says, add a card. My card and bank account has been there. I was making sure it wasn’t me but obviously something happened after that update. My phone started running slow and my website was asking me to update something. These things happened right after I updated.
