Cannot Link a Visa card to Apple Pay

I cannot link my visa debit card to my Apple wallet account. All it says is. card not added contact you card issuer for more information. I contacted my card issuer and they did not know what was going on. They told me to contact Apple I contacted Apple. They deny any responsibility, saying that they do not decline cards on the Apple wallet. I find this interesting though because I have found many times people saying that all they have to do is create a new Apple ID or use a different phone and their card will add completely fine. I was curious so I tried this myself and it was true. I was able to add my card to a different Apple pay wallet which was using a different Apple ID on a different phone. This is Apple‘s fault, and they are lying about it not being their fault because their support representatives have been trained to claim that they do not decline cards when that’s not the case, Apple Pay will decline cards and their support will do nothing about it because they’re taught to claim that it doesn’t

thanks for the input jeff. although I find it interesting you’re still claiming that my bank is the one declining the card when I’ve already explained that my card is able to be linked completely fine to another Apple Pay on another Apple ID on another device

Your lack of understanding of how Apple Pay works does not mean you’re being lied to. Rather than making false accusations and stating >facts< that aren’t in evidence, try asking questions and learning about how Apple Pay works.

In very simplistic terms, the card numbers are encrypted, and given a unique number specific to the device. This information is sent to your bank, the bank creates a unique encrypted number that only they have the key for decryption.

At this stage the bank takes over verification and sends a notice to your iPhone that they’ll text you, email you or do a voice or recorded call. Are you getting that notice?

There are multiple possibilities as to why? Your bank has troubleshooting they can do and your iPhone could have settings wrong, software errors and even hardware issues.

What steps did Apple Support go through with you?

There are a LOT of links in the chain where issues can occur.

Almost ALL are outside of “Apple” who is only involved — essentislly as a “relay” — during initial setup.

I’ve experienced this sort of issue and it WAS indeed one my issuer’s sub-contracted service providers … although it took 8 weeks — AND finding the RIGHT person — to sort-out.

A quite good primer on the technical processes involved is available here if you’re at-all interested:

Question: Have you EVER had THIS card installed on THAT particular “problem device” ?

Aug 19, 2023 06:55 AM in response to Chattanoogan

The problem initially occurred when i attempted to add my new card (same bank) to Apple Pay I was unable to verify my card immediately and thought I could solve it just by repeatedly attempting to link my card until it worked and then after 3 to 4 attempts, I was no longer able to link any card from any bank to my Apple pay I was told by an Apple representative on the phone that this is not relevant and is unrelated to my issue which I found extraordinarily interesting as the issue began occurring immediately after me repeatedly attempting to link a card to my Apple Pay
