iMac Apple Music App doesn't play CD music to Bluetooth

The Music app version 1.2.5.7 on my Intel iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015) running macOS Monterey Version 12.6.2 will not play music from a CD in an Apple SuperDrive that is connected to the USB port on the back of the iMac. No software updates are available.

When I switch to Internal Speakers, the music CD plays. When I switch to Bluetooth, the music stops. The Music app doesn't respond to the Play button. Shutdown, restart the app, same thing. Restart the iMac, same thing.

The iMac sends audio to my Bluetooth headphones just fine from internet audio and video via Safari, Chrome and FireFox, but not from a CD.

I followed numerous suggestions:

  • Remove and reconnect to my Bluetooth headphone
  • Shutdown, reset the SMC on startup
  • Restart, reset the NVRAM on startup

I installed the free Elmedia Video Player app from the App Store and it plays CD music to my Bluetooth headphones just fine. I want the Apple Music app to play through Bluetooth.

I wonder if this is some sort of revenue play by Apple to get me to stream my music through paid services.

Anyway, your advice to fix this will be appreciated.
