Music app will not play CD over bluetooth

Hello All,

I ran into a weird issue tonight I was trying to help a friend of mine fix.

He is running a 2020 iMac and is running macOS Monterey. He has a large CD collection he likes to listen to on his iMac and the Music app using a USB external CD drive. The CD audio plays perfectly fine on the built-in speakers. However, once it's switched over to a Bluetooth device (wireless speaker or Sony headphones) the music app halts the music playing. Clicking on the tracks on the CD does not do a thing.

I've verified and isolated that only the Music app is having an issue playing content on Bluetooth. System sounds as well as content on YouTube work fine. The only issue is the music app not having the ability to play CD's on Bluetooth. I tried a different USB cd drive and had the same issue, also gave the computer a quick reboot.

Any guidance or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey pdowd0001,

We'd recommend trying the following steps to attempt to resolve the issue:

Test with a different USB port on the Mac. You can find additional steps for troubleshooting USB issues here: If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac
Test with downloaded or purchased content directly in the Music app instead of a CD to see if the issue is specific to CD drives. You can find more info on using CD drives with Mac here: Play CDs and DVDs on Mac - Apple Support
