Macbook air came scratched out of the box
Hello everyone,
I recently bought my first new macbook air and after opening and activating it, I've noticed two tiny scratches near the trackpad. I spoke to the retail store and they won't return it back because I've activated the international warranty (that was the reason they specified). They also said that my warranty does not cover cosmetic damage. The box was unopened and clearly the damage was not from transportation. I would expect damage on the lid or the screen if it was due to transportation, so this is clearly factory made mistake. But what if it was a larger scratch or a dent?
I've also contacted the apple support and they referred me to a senior advisor. The advisor said that there is nothing that she can do. Not even offer some small compensation for the ordeal I went through (Just for the record I did not use the notebook for 10 days in case I have to return it back in it's original condition. My old laptop is broken). Maybe I was wrong for expecting too much from the support as well.
I just want to express my disappointment here because I've paid 1100$ for the M1 version and my expectation was that Apple quality control is top notch and cosmetic scratches will never happen. I've bought few cheap laptops in the past with half the price of the macbook air and they never came with cosmetic damage. Even though the scratch is not large, I like to take care of my electronics and I have gadgets that are 10 years old but in mint condition. Therefore, in future I might never buy an apple product again.
