Apple TV won’t turn on tv consistently.

about half the time it won’t turn on the tv but it always turns it off. I can turn it off and everything shuts down like it should. Then without touching anything else, I can come back after a short while or the next day and the Apple TV turns on but the tv itself will not. This has been happening for a long time. I finally just got tired of it and trying to find out why.

I have checked all the settings and updates and they are all current on both the LG tv and the Apple TV.

any idea why it shuts off every time but only turns on the LG tv intermittently?

Hi Paladin69,

This is likely due to an issue with HDMI-CEC. This feature allows your smart TV to be controlled by the Siri remote.

First, on your Apple TV under Settings > Remotes and Devices, ensure that Turn On Your TV with Your Remote is enabled.

For the second part of this you'll need to check your LG settings for HDMI-CEC and make sure it is enabled. This also should allow for volume control with your Apple TV remote with most tv models.

"Make sure that HDMI-CEC is on

If your TV or receiver supports HDMI-CEC, Apple TV uses the HDMI connection to allow it to be controlled by your TV or receiver remote.

If some features don't work:

  1. Make sure that your TV or receiver offers HDMI-CEC support. For help, ask the TV manufacturer or check the manual.
  2. Check that your Apple TV is connected to an HDMI port that supports HDMI-CEC. Check the TV manual to confirm which ports support HDMI-CEC.
  3. Check that HDMI-CEC is turned on in the menu of your TV or receiver. Use the remote that came with your equipment. Because manufacturers often have different names for HDMI-CEC, look for a setting that ends in "Link" or "Sync." Here are some examples:
  • LG: SimpLink
  • Philips: EasyLink
  • Samsung: Anynet+
  • Sharp: Aquos Link
  • Sony: BRAVIA Sync"

If you're unable to find LG's version of this setting we'd recommend reaching out to LG.

Cheers!
