Using an external monitor with my MacBook Air M2

When I connect my MacBook Air (M2) to an Acer external monitor and close the MacBook lid, the Acer display goes dark if the computer is operating on battery. Any suggestions?

Hello ronaldfromstow,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Let's make sure that you have the correct steps for connecting an external display to the MacBook Air M2. The guidance is found in the Apple Support article: Connect a display to your Mac

If you're using a Mac with the M1 or M2 chip:
On MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini, you can connect one external display using either of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. On iMac, connect your display to either of the ports with the Thunderbolt symbol .
On Mac mini, you can connect a second display to the HDMI port.
Using docks or daisy-chaining devices doesn't increase the number of displays you can connect.

Let us know the outcome, and we can go from there if needed.

Best regards!
