DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY error mac studio 2022

Hello. I bought a Mac Studio M1 Max 64GO, running on Ventura 13.0.1 and I have a random error that say my external disk was not ejected properly. When I'm working on lightroom or other app using files stored on this external it crash the app. The error is random but specifically target on my 2 Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD and one external Sandisk SSD in external inclosure.

I get the same error when :

- I change the USB cable

- I use the back or the front USB-C

I can see this error when not using the disk, when I'm working directly it's ok. But If I'm idle or if I don't work on an app using files on this disk, the error comes.

Thanks in advance for your help !

Need help. I am convinced these drives are not compatible with Mac. I have a Mac Mini (Apple silicon), a MBP (Intel, 15") and I just upgraded to a new Mac Studio. I thought the Mini was causing the problem, and AppleCare had expired, so I upgraded.

I have a 1TB Extreme SSD that randomly disconnects

A 2TB Extreme SSD that randomly disconnected. I have an RMA to send it back.

The 4TB Extreme Pro was a great price, so I got one. But it now became corrupted on the Mac Studio. It won;t mount on the Studio, the MBP or an iPad. Using the factory USB-C cables and an aftermarket one.

I am very frustrated. The storage is so much faster than HDD-based, but the disks are unreliable.

I recently had an HDD crash (thank-you BackBlaze). So I am increasingly frustrated by external storage now. Thoughts?

Hello yoan2web,

You provided some great details! Let's help to isolate this by testing the issue in safe mode. This will let us know if there's a third-party app or process causing this to happen. Here's more information on safe mode, and how to start there: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Apple silicon

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

After starting to safe mode, use your Mac normally to see if the issue happens again. If so, follow the appropriate steps in the safe mode guide for "If the issue continues in safe mode" or "If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode".

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

The 'Disk Not Ejected Properly' notification shows up on your Mac, indicates that there are errors in your operating system, or on the connected external drives, or in the connections between your external drives and the Mac.

More specifically, the reasons why the message 'Disk Not Ejected Properly' appear on your Mac are as follows:

1. Errors in the operating system

2. Problems in the removable hard drive

3. Failing external drive cable

4. The USB or other ports on the Mac computer are defective

Further, to fix the 'Disk Not Ejected Properly' notifications issue in macOS, you can try the below DIY methods:

1. Check the connections

2. Reset the Energy Saver settings on your Mac

3. Reset SMC on Mac

4. Reset NVRAM on Mac

5. Run First Aid to check your external hard drive

6. Reformat the external hard drive

7. Update macOS

Hope it helps!
