I just bought the M1 mini 16GB and I'm getting a static screen after trying to wake it from a sleep. If I turn off the display then turn it back on, the signal finally comes through, but tapping a key or clicking the mouse just shows static. Will this be an ongoing issue? Is this a hardware issue or an OS issue?
I'm using a 3' HDMI cable and a brand new hp m221 monitor.
Anyone else having this problem?

Disable Sleep, it’s unnecessary on later Macs, all pain, no gain. To disable, set your Energy Saver settings to as shown:
If on Ventura, find Prevent under Displays > Advanced:
Separately, avoid manual sleep, use screen lock instead or let the display switch off/auto-lock on timer. For long or overnight absences, shut.
Unfortunately that did not do the trick for me. I just downloaded OS Ventura and I'm hoping they fixed this. I believe this to be a driver issue. Hopefully not a hardware one. So far I haven't been getting it. I'll keep an update.
I just downloaded the new Ventura so I'm hoping Apple has addressed this since I've been seeing forms where people with 2018 minis also had this issue. So, it wasn't just M1's. So far I've been putting it to sleep and coming back, and not getting the static or black screen. So... I will keep an update on this if it happens again. Hopefully minis are good now!
Mac’s can be picky when in comes to display cables. I would get and use a short Premium Certified HDMI cable instead of the HP supplied HDMI cable.
