SMB / Windows Shared Folders Issues

Our small business have 2 Windows servers. A 2018 and a 2022.

Both have several folder shares and since upgrade a Mac mini to Ventura we are having issues.

Process:

  • Finder -> Connect to Server
  • smb://192.168.1.200/pics or ../videos
  • Ventura connects, browses, but as soon as I try to pull a file from it or put a file , I get the Estimating time.... box and sits there thinking for 10 minutes and it times-out.

Works perfectly from previous MacOS boxes, and it worked ok on this Mac mini until moving to ventura.

I installed FileZilla on one windows server, and tested with ftp, and it worked perfectly with the ftp protocol, from this same ventura box.

So "it seems" something is messed up with Ventura's SMB implementation?

I appreciate any input. Thanks !

Greetings BrzIphone,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We suggest checking the settings for the shared folder after the macOS update. The steps can be found in the Apple Support article: Share files and folders in iCloud Drive on iCloud.com - Apple Support

1.In iCloud Drive on iCloud.com, select the shared file or folder.
2.Click the Manage Shared File or Folder button, then do any of the following:
Add participants: Click Add People or Send Link.

Remove participants from a privately shared item: Hold the pointer over the person’s name, then click the More pop-up button and choose Remove Access.

Edit sharing options for a participant of a privately shared item: Hold the pointer over the person’s name, then click the More pop-up button and choose an access level (Can Make Changes or View Only).
Edit sharing options for everyone: Click Share Options.

Copy the link to the shared file or folder: Click Copy Link.

3.Click Done.

If the settings are correct and this issue persists, get in touch with Apple Support for further assistance:

We hope this helps you.

Best regards!

Hello @ArmMan1016. Thank you very much for your input.

But the issue I am having is from a Mac to Windows, and not the other way around. The suggestion you gave are Windows to Mac, then for sure those would help.

Unless Apple Support can escalate to Developers level, I am not sure if they can help me. The issue is with the smb implementation on Ventura. (it has happened before). Eventually enough business users complain and Apple ends up fixing it.

At any rate, I am open to any other suggestions you might have.
