How to Rename Removable Drive on iPad

Question

I can rename folders and files but not removable drives in files. It there a magic trick or is this an oversight by Apple?

iPad Pro, 12.9-inch, 6th Gen, Wi-Fi

iOS/iPadOS lack any means by which to format (or reformat) external storage devices.

At present, at least for current versions (iOS/iPadOS 15.7.1 and 16.1), the OS also lacks capability of renaming an external storage device.
