My IMac is asking for my password to enable Touch ID but it won’t accept my password (or anything else). I have not received an error that my entries are wrong. I have tried many times.

The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID can be turned OFF without having to Unplug the computer.
The Cable the Keyboard to computer as a Test of this issue persists.
Reverse the above Cabling and does it work as expected.
Did you try the password you enter when you turn on your iMac?
I unplugged the imac for a few minutes then it started to behave normally. Don’t know others experience, but my complaint about my imac is the number of times I have password issues.
