Updated to Ventura, and Safari is now moving slow as molasses

I'm actually having a host of minor problems that cropped up immediately after updating to Ventura. However, the biggest one is Safari.

I updated to Ventura about 48 hours ago(?), and right after the update Safari began taking forever to load web pages. And it's still doing it.

It even takes a minute or two to initially load Safari when I first start my computer. I start the computer and open Safari, it says that Safari can't connect to the internet. After a while it finally starts connecting.

Also, I can't download even small PDF files from the internet. Download speeds are at anywhere from 5 kb/sec to 60 kb/sec. So I can't download Firefox to see if that might work better; when I try, the download times out after a couple minutes.

And it takes multiple tries to even log onto my favorite MMORPG. I haven't even tried playing it.

Another irritating problem: When I first start my computer, it routinely jams midway through loading: The loading bar underneath the apple stops halfway. I force quit, turn the computer on again, and it loads okay the second time and starts normally.

Meantime, iCloud seems to be working fine. In fact, better than previously. I'm happy about that at least. Also, Pages seems to be working fine.

OTOH, Scanmarker barely works now. And since I can't download anything from the web (Safari is too slow), I can't update the software for that.

All of this is brand new since updating to Ventura about 48 hours ago. Everything worked fine up until Monday night.

I have a Mac Mini purchased Aug 2021. Processor is 3.2GHz (turbo to 4.6 GHz) Intel Core i7 6-Core Processor

Anyone else registering problems on this level?

Mac mini, macOS 11.5

Create a New User:

Why happens when you create a new admin user? Create this in Safe Mode. If is it is working just fine in Safe Mode, then something is running in the background, and it is tied to the current user. Question is: “What[is running in the background??” If it is not working, then it is something tied to the entire Operating System.

I've been away from this thread for a few weeks, and I'm just now returning to it to report back on the issue: The most recent Ventura update a day or two ago seems to have resolved the problem.

Just to recap: My Mac mini started acting buggy immediately after the initial Ventura upgrade. I described the problem here at Apple forums (see above), got a few suggestions for possible quick fixes, but nothing was helping. I was just kicking off a house move and didn't have a lot of time to put into diagnostics (and I'm not a techie), so I gave up on the thread here and continued to use my computer for the next couple weeks by booting up in "safe boot" mode every time I turned it on. "Safe boot" mode offers limited capabilities, but it at least allowed me to do word processing and use the internet at a basic level without any problems.

Occasionally I would try booting up the computer in "normal" mode, but the bugginess persisted. I figured that once my house move was finished I would bring my computer to a shop for service.

Anyway, there was a new Ventura upgrade a day or two ago, and that upgrade appears to have restored my Mac mini to full capacity. After the upgrade, my computer booted up in normal mode by default, and I noticed that it was working fine in that mode. And for the last day and a half I've been booting up in "normal" mode and using the computer to full capacity without any bugginess. So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the problem is resolved for good.

Anyway, I just figured I would report back and mention the fix. To coin a phrase, Ventura giveth and Ventura taketh away.

Thanks for the advice, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

I first did a safe boot as you suggested, and the problem went away while I was in safe mode: In safe mode, my internet was lightning fast. But when I closed it down and booted up again in normal mode, the problem was back again as bad as previously.

The problem also persisted when I removed my log-in items, disconnected everything but mouse and keyboard, used Disk Utility to check my disk, and even reinstalled the OS (Ventura).

Any other suggestions? Or is it time to get my computer serviced?

I can totally relate, Calidad!

Even trying to reply to your post in safari took a whole 1 minute to load.

And this is same even with chrome browser. I almost thought my internet provider was the problem, but all other devices are working and connecting fine.

Kaspersky Internet Security reqauires "full disk access" but Pricacy & Security is not able to give access.

Most other apps like whatsapp also take a ton longer to load.

I hope there is fix soon.

Bah and humbug. I spoke too soon the other day. As of today, my Mac mini has gone back to acting buggy again. Now the main problem is that when I try to start my computer, it jams midway through loading: The loading bar underneath the apple stops halfway. I force quit, try turning on the computer again, and it jams again.

So basically I can't use my computer at all in "normal" mode because it won't boot up. The only way I can get into my computer is by doing a "safe boot" and using my computer in "safe" mode.

Oh well, as I said in my last post, Ventura giveth and Ventura taketh away. I guess I'll use my computer in "safe" mode for now and then bring it to the shop when I've finished my house move.
